Achnagairn Castle wedding photography - Lizzie & Dale

I got whisked away to the Scottish Highlands last May for lovely Lizzie & Dale’s wedding at the amazing Achnagairn Castle.

Lizzie is the creative force behind Elizabeth Malcolm Couture Bridalwear. She’s a seriously talented designer, and has been a good wedding pal of mine for several years, so I was super thrilled when she mentioned that she was wedding planning - the only problem being that it had to be in a castle in Scotland. OK THEN! :)

Of course, Lizzie made her own dress, so there had to be lots of photographs to show it off, and the whole thing meant a four day trip during a busy time, but what an awesome adventure we had!

Against my better judgement, I flew to Inverness - I never like flying for work as I have sooo much heavy expensive gear, even if I try to strip it back and travel light it still has to be checked in, and that’s a risk I really don’t want to take. Luckily I managed to stash some pices of gear in the hired wedding van that was making the drive up a few days before me, so in the end it worked out pretty well. Getting to Inverness feels like, in Lizzie’s words ‘driving to the end of the world’ - it’s a least a 10 hour drive which is not far off as long as it can get for us Brits :)

Achnagairn rates as one of the best wedding venues I’ve visited. I particularly love that it’s not staffed at night so you really get the feeling of having the run of the place. There’s a huge ‘family kitchen’ where all the guests are welcome to make their own meals, hang out, and have drinks which was lovely for the night before the wedding. It’s very strange for me to stay at the venue with the wedding crowd, but it was really lovely to catch up with everybody, and that also meant I was there for the amazing breakfasts in the morning :)

Couple of things to look out for - don’t miss honourary flowergirl little Winnie the dog - she’s featured in the amazing artwork on the wedding by the Sugared Rose. Oh, and me. I got to be in one shot too! I spend a lot of time trying not to catch my own reflection when shooting using mirrors, so it was nice to not have to worry for at leat one shot this time!
