Dogs at weddings? Yes please!
I thought it was about time I made the effort to collate some shots of one of my favourite modern wedding ideas! It has to be said, dogs at weddings have a unique way of spreading happiness among guests.
Yes, they steal the show, get all the attention, cause a decent amount of chaos, and generally take over the in the nicest possible way, but would you have it any other way?!
Many couples choose to include their furry friends in the wedding festivities, whether as ring bearers, flower dogs, or simply as part of the bridal party. The sight of a well-dressed pup trotting down the aisle never fails to bring smiles and create memorable moments :)
You might have figured out by now that I’m a very dog-friendly wedding photographer! I love meeting all the four-legged member of the wedding party and will probably be found making myself useful looking after them on the day and making sure they get plenty of fuss and attention (as if they will be short of that!)
Best Tips for Having Your Dog at Your Wedding
When it comes to including your furry friend in your special day, there are a few key tips to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Plan Ahead: Make sure your venue allows dogs and understand any restrictions they may have. Check with your officiant if your dog can be a part of the ceremony.
Assign a Handler: Designate a trusted person to be in charge of your dog on the day. This could be a professional handler or a close friend who knows your pet well. See below for links to my trusted dog handlers.
Dress Rehearsal: Conduct a rehearsal with your dog at the venue. This will help them get acclimated to the space and reduce any anxiety they may have on the actual day.
Grooming: Ensure your dog is clean and well-groomed for the occasion. Consider a trip to the groomers a few days before the wedding.
Comfort and Safety: Provide a comfortable space for your dog with water, food, and any necessary toys or bedding. Keep them away from any potential hazards at the venue. Think about keeping them cool in summer, too.
Capture the Moment: Arrange for a professional pet-friendly photographer who can capture special moments with your dog during the wedding. That’s me then!
Entertainment: Have activities planned to keep your dog occupied during the event, especially if they will be present for an extended period.
Exit Strategy: Decide in advance how your dog will be taken care of after their part in the wedding is done. Whether they go home or to a trusted pet sitter, ensure their post-wedding care is organized.
